THE PSYCHO IN PSYCHOGEOGRAPHY
This project is exploring the psychogeographical characteristics of a space in a virtual environment. The aim of the project is to research matters related to psychogeography, the effects of the geographical environment on the emotions and behaviour of individuals, and how they reflect in a virtual environment. I aspire to determine whether the impact of a situation on a person, is as strong in a virtual space, as it is in a real space. For that reason, I created a virtual replica of a familiar location, Alison House, the university building I did my masters studies in. My research started by conducting a survey, based on a questionnaire, asking students that have studied in the building on how they feel within the space. After analysing the data, I added details of special importance to the virtual replica of the building, in order to enhance the ambience and stimulated scenarios and situations within it. Then, through user testing, I aimed to determine whether the virtual experience triggered the same emotions as the real life building. The result proves that there is a strong relation between the feelings triggered in a real life space to those triggered in a familiar virtual environment.
